Ladies of the Court

At the December round of We Love Role-Play I came across a new and very promising creator. The brand is called Portal and they have just a few releases out so far but the focus on historical clothing captured my interest right away. Their item for WLRP is a classic medieval gown called Marguerite that is rigged for Belleza Freya, Legacy and Maitreya Lara. I hesitated a bit at first since there is only a HUD-driven fatpack available, though this makes sense since at least half the fun with this gown is how you can mix and match the six independently colourable areas (sleeves, pads, bodice, outer skirt, inner skirt and lace). The price point is a little higher than similar all-in-one options from brands like ContraptionN, but on the other hand it is a full gown. So, I picked it up.

To show off some of the many combinations available, I decided to arrange a little court scene with three ladies. It was pretty fiddly shooting each separately and combining them, so I skimped a little on some of the changes; everyone is wearing the same jewellery from Old Treasures. ;)

But I am quite pleased with the end result!

A couple more notes about the gown. I did have some issues with the inner skirt breaking through the outer skirt. I spoke to the creator and we narrowed it down to body fat in my case. I do have that fairly high compared to many SL avatars, so you may not have that issue, but do try the demo. I also found that in regards to that, Slink worked better with the Maitreya rig, though that did mean having to find the right alphas for the upper body.

I also ended up setting bumpiness and shininess to none as it reacted a bit too strongly to projected lights in terms of materials. This is why keeping things mod is so important!
