Sweet Petites

They’re tiny, they’re amazing and they are mesh. The Petites are a new joint venture from several talented creators—Yabusaka, Fallen Gods and Wasabi Pills—that have joined together to produce a line of small mesh avatars. Alia Baroque of Fallen Gods provides an excellent introduction and I will try my best to convey some of my impressions of these adorable little avatars.

The initial release of Petites consists of the Dracos, Crystals and Elves and for each avatar there are several colour options in terms of colour, outfits, accessories and so on. Everything in mesh. Wasabi Pills has also produced a mini version of the Orion hair that fits the avatars. The plan is to continue to release more bodies, outfits and accessories for the Petites and to attract more creators to the project to give users a wide variety of choice. Already creators such as Pink Fuel, G-Field, the Looking Glass and Frippery are working on Petites.

This photo shows one of the Dracos in the Inferno colour and wearing the provided outfit, wings and accessories. Isn’t she adorable? This photo was taken without shadows since we ended up having some issues with some parts of the mesh not rendering with shadows enabled. Most likely its a bug on our end or with the rendering itself rather than the avatar, but we couldn’t determine precisely what.

The photo is taken in our patisserie from Alchemy Immortalis, just to show the Petite in a normal-sized environment.

Here we enabled shadows and oops, her clothing disappeared. No wonder she’s got a captive audience now. All animations and poses work as usual with these avatars, btw.

In addition to various base options for skin, the Petites also come with two huds. One allows skin tinting and the other controls facial expressions, hand positions and turns on and off shiny and glow. This shows a Draco with both a bit of shiny and glow enabled.

For the final shot (for now, these are a lot of fun to play with), a look at one of the Crystals, dancing atop a cake (see the shadow). Shadows have again taken off her outfit but the overall quality of every piece included is very apparent.

On the whole, these avatars are very well done and very well thought-out. I am quite excited to see what sort of options will be released for them in the future and I think this really showcases the strengths of mesh in an amazing way. While I am not expecting to become a full-time Petite, I can see lots of very cool uses for them for photography and for a very unusual style of dress-up. A big part of the experience is definitely seeing them up close, so make sure to pay a visit to the Petites Kingdom.
