SciFi Finds

Science fiction was the first sort of fiction to ever really capture my imagination, and though I read rather less of it now than I used to, it still captures my imagination when I see a well-made object or avatar in Second Life that’s inspired by it. When I was browsing Sector SciFi, I came across Gantz Nishi’s stall and was amazed at some of the avatars and objects on sale, such as some amazing motorcycles, and I picked up a couple of full avatars I wanted to share.

The Type Zero avatar featured here is a steal at a mere L$150, and comes with copy/mod permissions. Which is, actually, sort of important, because the two pictures I have here are modded.

The first is the standard avatar, except I added a low shine to it which I think looks very nice. The flatter look out of the box is perhaps somewhat truer to an early 80’s anime, but ... I like shiny, what can I say? The only difficulty is a couple of large invisprims need to be selected separately to remove the shiny from them, otherwise they make a weird halo around your head and chest. The second image features the shininess, but also a full tinting of all the white parts of the avatar to orange, just to show some of the possibilities. As to the third picture? The little tiny avatar, Owata Robo, is entirely free. Very weird, and very cute.

A great deal of thought and effort went into these avatars, and they’re definitely on the very affordable end. The Type Zero is one that I think I’ll be playing around a fair bit with to personalize it more.
