Romantic Libertine

Some new acquisitions that I have to share, in my constant quest to find items that suit period sort of looks. An old friend—RFyre—and something new—Shag—come together in what I think is a pretty excellent look. Along the way, I have to plug an excellent free item from a brilliant designer, and plug a fun event in Second Life that many, many people are scampering all ‘round the grid to enjoy.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skin: Androgyne Man (Cappuccino clean B-00)by eXceSs
Hair: Libertine (Falu) by Shag
Costume: Garrett (in Black and in Red) by Rfyre
Boots:
(Left) Pirate Boots by Illusions
(Right) Flat Ankle Boots (Red) by Coco (Christmas gift)
Poses: By LAP

When I saw that RFyre had the Garrett costume—released as part of their vampiric family themed release awhile back—on sale, I just had to get both colors. I admit, I wasn’t very fond of either when I first saw them, but it seems I had just my head on wrong because now that I own them, I love them. ;) I like, for example, that Raven Pennyfeather went and changed the texture of the coat between the black and the red versions quite significantly. I’m not quite sure what sort of period the clothing style belongs to—I keep thinking a southern gentleman circa the Civil War perhaps—but whatever it is, it looks very smart. There’s some nice options, not all shown—a collar without the scarf, a belt without the jacket skirt, a black hat), and partially unzipped pants (actually, the zipped pants I’m not too fond of—breaks the period illusion a bit, but a small price to pay).

Another nice detail? The buckle of the belt is changed between the two. Not a lot of people would think to tweak things like that, but Raven did.

On a separate note, I have to mention the generosity of COCO for offering these flat ankle boots for Christmas. They are intended for women primarily, but with some resizing using the HUD and a little luck you can just about get them to fit on a male AV. They’re terrific boots, well-textured and put together. I wish I could get into the riding boots, because they’re fantastic and oh-so-period, but I’m afraid that I at least have had no luck without resizing them to the point where they look silly. Oh, well! Maybe she’ll consider making a pair that suit male AVS if enough people ask (hint hint). White versions of these boots can be won as a prize in this year’s Winter’s Choice Stamp Rally, along with a full set of female, winter clothing, as well as a bunch of other great prizes.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skin: Androgyne Man (Cappuccino clean B-00)by eXceSs
Hair: Libertine (Sangria and Copper) by Shag

I thought I’d also feature the new hair I’m wearing here. I noticed Shag had some new hair out via the feeds, and the men’s hair caught my eye (both because it looked great, and because the photos featuring Shag co-owner Sebastien Aries were excellent) so I dropped over and tried the demos. Didn’t take long for me to acquire The Libertine, one of the two new hair styles for men (the other, Caught, comes in both male and female versions). For just L$250 you get five colors—these, and Falu in the previous photo, are from the Red pack if you couldn’t get—and I have to say, the textures are very nice. The sculpt work are well-done—the two photos here give a better sense of how it looks from the side—and give The Libertine a sweeping, but slightly messy, feel.

Fits with a period, Romantic sort of look I think, though I suppose it’s a rather hip hairstyle these days too. Shag’s a store I haven’t visited often, but I’ll have to keep a closer eye on them if they keep producing that pushes my particular buttons.

Excellent clothes, excellent hair, excellent boots. Don’t really need a lot more in your second life, right?
