LivejournalThis seems to be the time for store rebuilds and store relaunches. Naergilien Wunderlich of Wunderlich’s has just completed a remake of her store and, as if that wasn’t enough, she’s released five new skin lines; three female and two male. It is the former that I will be taking a closer look at today, so meet Kim, Kati and Gabi, available now at Wunderlich’s for the rather amazing price of L$ 150 per makeup.
Skin: Kim Tone 3 Natural, Kati Tone 1 Natural and Gabi Tone 3 Natural by Wunderlich's
Hair: Anette Crow by Truth, Stephanie Dark Copper by Jolie Femme and Ash Espresso by Analog Dog
Each of these lovely ladies come in five tones each and a wide selection of makeups, from everyday to wild. We’ll take a close look at those further down, but first some thoughts about these skins in general.
Like with her clothing, Naergilien works with a lot of photosourcing, and these skins are among the most realistic you will find on the grid. As such, they are perhaps less “prettified” than what is the SL norm; the highlighting and shading has been adjusted to work with the SL mesh, but there are pores and blemishes such as moles on the skin as well as stronger tonal differences than in a lot of other skins. Don’t take this to mean that the skins aren’t well-made because they certainly are; seams are handled well and they play nicely with the mesh, working with a range of shapes.
Personally, I really like the way they look. The faces have a lot of individual character and beauty and the bodies have a natural, feminine look to them. The black skin, Kim, has the strongest tonal differences and I might have preferred a bit more evening out of those, but some of that does go with the territory of making as few changes to the source as is possible beyond fitting it to the mesh. And speaking of tones, I think each skin has a very nice range of natural tones, without any over-saturation and orange undertones.
Here’s a closer look at Kim’s face and at two of the available makeups. Kim is an excellent choice for those looking for a black skin that isn’t just a Caucasian-featured skin in a darker tone. I particularly like the lips on this skin and I think the face works really well for a rather youthful look with a bit of roundness to the cheeks.
Skin: Kati Tone 1 Cat-Eye and Lovebird by Wunderlich's
Hair: Stephanie Dark Copper by Jolie Femme
Kati is one of those rare and (to my mind, at least) very welcome red-browed skins. I particularly liked the palest tone, so that is what I choose to feature, but there are four shades darker available as well for those who prefer that. Again I am fond of how the lips are done and I also like the fairly strong red brows. The close-up of the body also shows some of those adorable moles on Kati.
Finally, we have Gabi. Here I went for the darkest tone as I thought there was something a bit exotic about her face on the right sort of shape. The Kohl makeup shown to the left here is one of my favourites from the makeups on offer; I love the way it looks on her eyes. I also decided to feature one of the wilder makeups, the Rooster.
Regarding the makeups, they are the same for each skin range and you can also purchase them separately as Viewer 2.0 layers for use with any other skin. Each makeup then includes both eyes+lips and just eyes, in case the shape of the lips doesn’t cover the lips on the skin you’re using.
Wunderlich’s brand new store is divided up into several different shops, with the skins housed in a separate building from the animated avatars, the historical clothing and the historical footwear from the Chopine’s brand. If you pop over to check out these skins—and at L$ 150 per makeup, why wouldn’t you?—make sure to browse around a bit and see what else is on offer!
