Of Silence and Lassitude

As a general rule, purple and I tend not to mix. But… sometimes you come across something that’s just the right shade, and it looks gorgeous, and you can’t help yourself. Such is the case with this offering from Silent Sparrow, one of my very favorite clothing stores in SL because of the talent and imagination of the mastermind behind the store, hyacinth Tiramisu. And so, too, are the brilliant new boots from Lassitude & Ennui, Severian.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skin: Adam Crius (Deep Tan) by The Abyss
Hair: Dive (Onyx) by Analog Dog
Suit: Ryou Suit (Hyacinth) by Silent Sparrow
Boots: Severian (Steel Grey) by Lassitude and Ennui
Poses: By LAP

The Ryou suit in the Hyacinth color is, well, beautiful. It’s just a perfect shade of purple—I’m sure there’s some particular term for the shade—which just wears beautifully and absolutely stands out in a crowd. hya’s placed some loving detail into it, such as the lovely feathered scarf and the metallic prim ornamentation at the belt that’s part of the tail of the coat. As you can see, I’ve worn it with and without the shirt that comes with it, and it’s a very flattering cut. Presently, the suit is in its last days as part of her lucky chair suite, but after that it can be purchased. It’s unisex, and I very much recommend it (and, for that matter, everything else from the store).

I’ve paired it with Analog Dog’s new hair, Dive. It’s certainly intended for women, but damn if it doesn’t look pretty on a man, eh? I’m especially fond of the spine-attached second prim to provide the drape of hair over the shoulders. This hair recently helped me take a prize at a pirate-themed party, and no wonder; it looks like something out of the mid 17th century, in the era of cavaliers and musketeers. As to the boots ... well, more about these beauties in a moment.

It’s been a good while since Jackal Ennui of Lassitude and Ennui last released shoes for men, and I for one am glad that these Severian boots landed in my inventory (thanks, Jackal!) I’ve always been a huge fan of the Laudanum shoes, Baroque-inspired as they are, and as I recall they were for a very long time the biggest purchase for shoes I ever made. Well, Severian is a triumphant return, if I may say so.

Look at them and how beautifully the sculpt and texture goes together. Unlike the old Laudanum shoes, these are copy/mod, and come in three sizes (Small, Medium, Large) while containing a resize script if further adjustment is needed. The marvellous thing, of course, about copy/mod boots like this is that you can tint them, which opens a huge range of possibilities. For example, after this shoot I took the Steel Grey boots (worn in the first pictures) and tinted it up to a lovely shade of purple that matched the Ryou suit. The black boots, in particular, would be extremely adaptable to a wide range of (deeper) hues, perfect for rich crimsons, azures, and emeralds. And for more subtle colors? Jackal’s offered up five excellent hues, and I’m particularly fond of the blood red.

At just L$250 a pair, these lovely boots are a steal for anyone who wants something that mixes well with Goth, fantasy, or historical clothing. Pretty sure they’d look sharp in modern dress, for that matter. The boots are unisex, so there’s really no excuse not to try them out—while all it takes to get Ryou in Hyacinth is a group tag and some patience, or a wee bit of cash. What are you waiting for?
