Shapes, photography and fashion reviews by Ran Garrigus and Freyja Nemeth. This blog has been replaced by the Otherworldly blog.
LivejournalI’ve mostly been getting a hold of poses (and, uhm, bunnies—long story) this last week or two, so it was refreshing to get a look at some new clothing for men from Soren Jaakobs. The story behind these is interesting…
Skin: Scorpio Ra 3[A] by The Abyss
Hair: Stephanie II (Black) by Jolie Femme
Shirt: Lucard (Oceanswift) by Soren Jaakobs
Pants: Ladro pants by Last Call (no longer available)
Shoes: Spencers (Navy) by Shiny Things
Scarf: Polar Scarf (Citadel) by Soren Jaakobs
Bag: Arcant Bag (Loch) by Soren Jaakobs
Poses: Brandon Flowers pose set by Dismorph
From what I’ve read over at Daktoa Lubitsch‘s excellent review blog, these latest releases from Soren Jaakobs were created by Vaughn Vendetta on the Teen Grid. He’s still there, but he’s struck a deal with the recently-transferred Sin Kovacs to run Soren Jaakobs in the main grid. It’s an interesting partnership, and I’m glad it’s happened, because these items are quite interesting! Promising that they’re 100% created in photoshop, the textures are crisp and I’m very much enjoying the color palettes in use. The Lucard shirt (a mere L$135 apiece, with a total of 8 colors available) in the Oceanswift color is nicely executed. It’s a difficult thing, a pin-striped shirt, and admittedly it doesn’t fully match up at the waist—but it’s very difficult to do so. The Polar scarf’s nicely sculpted and tonally it matches the Lucard shirt very well, and I imagine the 11 other colors are similarly handsome in their texturing. It’s just L$150 as well, which is certainly very affordable.
As to the bag? Well, every urban guy needs a messenger bag, I think. I kind of wish I owned one in RL… maybe I’ll get one, actually. Lugging around a backpack isn’t terribly stylish (at least, not when I’m doing it). In any case, I’m a fan of the texturing on this, particularly with the shading. The Arcant messenger bags come in 8 colors, and are the most expensive Soren Jaakobs item here at L$195 (which is, again, a very fair price for the quality of work seen here).
The outfit suits the Ladro pants from the late, lamented Last Call, clothing which I often wore with the Spencer sculpted shoes (still one of the most amazing men’s shoes in SL, years after they were first out) from Shiny Things and which I decided to wear again in Navy. To complete it all, one of my favorite long hairstyles right now—Stephanie II from Jolie Femme (yes, I’m aware it’s a female hairstyle)—and then some quirky, very fun poses from Dismorph. who I’ve recently featured. This pose set is named Brandon Flowers, and the five poses take their names from various songs performed by the lead singer of The Killers, a band which Freyja and I happen to love. These are definitely not for every one or every occasion, but they’re certainly fun.
Soren Jaakobs is definitely a store to check out for stylish, well-made menswear. As to the poses, you can still find Dismorph. at their Pose Fair booth. Pose Fair ends on the 16th, I believe, so little more than a week left!
