Shapes, photography and fashion reviews by Ran Garrigus and Freyja Nemeth. This blog has been replaced by the Otherworldly blog.
LivejournalFrom Fantasy Faire to Alternative Fair, we have a bit of everything. This time around, I just had to feature some gorgeous, incredibly affordable tattoos from Acid & Mala. And in the process, uncover a bit more than I usually do…

First, a disclaimer: I’ve never done full-frontal nudes for review purposes before, so be gentle. ;) The version of the image you see on this page has some strategic pixellation going on, but if you click through to the full image, you will see naughty bits.
Now, to the review. Really well-done tattoos on Second Life are quite popular, and it’s hard not to see why when you consider these offerings from Acid & Mala. These are both unisex tattoos, with adjustments to appropriate layers to deal, I think, with things like the slightly different nipple placement on the male and female mesh. The dragon tattoo at left is A&M’s donation item for the Nothing but Nets charity, which the Alternative Fair (found at the corners of Pulse, Sn@tch City, Nomine, and New Kadath) is sponsoring. It’s very cheap—just L$100—and it’s for an excellent cause. One thing I did notice with certain other skins is that the black tattoo does dip down into the pubic hair area ... which can, actually, look sort of odd. But if you’re bare, no worries!
The same can be said for the awesome Paisley tattoo—which comes on multiple layers, and comes in soft and intense tintable variations as well as the henna example shown here—as the tattoo does run down onto the pubis. In fact, that’s the main reason I’m doing the review fully nude, because you sort of have to see the effect to really get how it looks. It’s really very impressive, and I love how the skull design is worked in with the paisley patterning. The tattoo even extends onto the glove layer, and as you can see it reaches the back of the calf (although in that respect, I wonder if they couldn’t have given the calf tattoo on a sock layer, which is one layer they don’t include). And all that (and unisex as well)? Just L$150. Wow.
The skin is the excellent Ishmael from LeLutka, which I’ve reviewed in the past. That time, though, I mentioned but did not show one of the more notable parts of the skin package: the sculpted, scripted genitals. Well, since they’re on display, I might as well talk about them a bit more. There’s a HUD to allow you to match skin tones across the range of Ishmael tones as well as tinting if you want to match some other skin, and you can of course resize it to your heart’s content if you’re feeling any inadequacy. ;) And of course, it includes several states of arousal, so perfectly useful for sexual purposes if that’s an interest, but it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles (literally!) of the more advanced sexual attachments on the grid. It’s actually very well done sculpting and baking, if you ask me.
So: Dragon tattoo is just L$100 and it’s for a good cause, so you really have no excuse not to get it. The Paisley tattoo is just L$150, versatile, and beautiful, and so ... well, if I were you, I’d get it. ;)
