My, Oh My, Miamai

Miamai’s recently reopened with a brand new main store, and has stocked full of a new spring collection. Best of all? The spring collection has a male component, so there’s some fine men’s fashion to check out. It’s a fascinating collection, covering everything for classic fashion staples to the more avant garde, and I thought I’d share a sampling.

Miamai’s releases for men and women contain hair, and I swear, I tried them all . . . but the hair is just a bit too fashion forward for me, and I admit, they didn’t fit my avatar’s head all that well even with resizing. So, I left that by the wayside—fascinating looks, to be sure, and I expect there are plenty of avatars who it’ll fit in one go, but not my thing. The clothing, however, was more in my style, and I’m pleased to have had a chance to review the range. The Neo shirt in white was the first piece that really drew my attention, thanks to the asymmetrical sculpt that extends it past the waist. A great touch, although I’m not quite sure the prim is tinted darker; as it’s mod, though, you can fix that yourself pretty easily. It used to be necessary with prims, because avatars and their textures were lit more darkly than prim attachments, but that’s no longer the case.

Then the Kanz shirt in black (there’s a nice, dark grey with a skull design on the back, too) is pretty well done, but I admit, I fear the sculpt for the waist is not nearly as successful as Neo’s. I’m not quit sure why. Possibly my avatar has a bit too much in the way of hip or saddlebags, but I just couldn’t get a really good fit for it, hence the belling out at the bottom. On the other hand, the prims on the Ereo jacket are more successful, and fit very nicely. It’s a terrific sort of coat, and strikes me as quite fashionable. Under it, you can glimpse the Kingdom shirt in red. The name—and the awesome sort of vambrace sculpt that attaches to the right arm (not shown)—make me think it’s fantasy-inspired, but whatever the case, it’s a lovely piece of work.

And last but not least, the Dean jacket. This one’s terrific, with a well-done set of sculpts at the arms, collar, chest, and waist. The pockets you see there are prims as well, although you can wear the outfit without the waist prim well enough as there are pockets painted on as well. It’s a handsome look, and I had fun mixing-and-matching with other clothes (you can glimpse the Kanz shirt, in the tucked format, under it).

This new spring collection is, as far as I’m concerned, a great addition for fashion options for men in Second Life. Though in some cases, the prims may be a bit tough to work with (whether it’s hair or a sculpted addition), for the most part everything fits nearly out of the box, with only minimal fiddling necessary. Very much a place to go shopping, and don’t forget to take a partner with you, to explore the men’s or women’s collections with you.
