LivejournalToday is Lucia in Sweden, so perhaps I ought to have blogged a long, white gown—suspiciously similar to a night gown—and brought out Siyu Suen’s lovely Lussinat crown that she made for the holidays last year. But, I already did that picture this year (well, okay, so its lingerie ... but almost), so instead you’re getting some red, also appropriately seasonal, in the form of Naergilien Wunderlich’s latest creation: a reproduction of a Madame de Pompadour gown.

Clothes: Madame de Pompadour Pearls Gown Red by Wunderlich's

The “Pearls” gown is a lovely reproduction of a gown worn by Madame de Pompadour in a painting by Boucher. As always, Naergilien has put her skills as an RL and SL costumer to good use, and produced a very faithful replica of the gown in the painting. This would definitely be a grand choice for a more formal Christmas party, and if red isn’t your thing it comes in 21 other colours. Each gown includes versions with silver trim and with gold trim on the sleeves, the bodice and the skirt. The pearl attachment on the bodice is a little fiddly with some poses, but that’s just the nature of prims, and the skirt is composed of both a system skirt and prim parts, so you will want to wear a skirt shape.
Apart from it being a very stately and elegant gown, it has to be pointed out that the neckline is quite fabulous if your skin has an option for “corset” or “push up” cleavage (like my Sasha skin does), or if you have an add-on undershirt for that effect. This is just the sort of garment that it should be worn with.
If this isn’t quite grand enough, and you want something really fit for a queen, then you should be heading over to Wunderlich today. She has released a limited edition gown based on one of Marie Antoinette’s state dresses. Only 20 copies of each colour will ever be put out, and judging from the preview pictures it is looking very grand.
