Having a talented designer like Morrigan Denimore cite me as an inspiration for Mon Capitaine, his latest creation, is very flattering. And when it’s as beautiful as this suit, well, even more flattering. Morrigan knows I’m a great fan of historical garments in Second Life, and this entry fits that perfectly. This beautiful costume takes some elements of period fashion—the beautiful turned-back sleeves, cravats, long vests—and mixes it with the stark aesthetic of Elegant Gothic Aristocrat stylings. It’s a remarkable piece having, I think, the most prim options of any of Black Canary’s offerings to date.

Featured here is Freyja wearing the full ensemble with the coat and baldric. There are prims for the upper and lower arms, the baldric (which can be a little tricky to size for larger avatars, but not so bad for smaller ones), and you can glimpse the combined vest and lower coat prims which is a great touch. The sleeves are one of my favorite things about the coat—big, turned-back cuffs like that just make my mouth water. Freyja has combined it with boots from Pixel Mode, where there’s currently an L$50 sale on all shoes, clothing, animations, prefabs, furnishings, and more. She certainly carries forth a piratical air, with her new Samantha hair from Truth and the lovely Kim skin from PXL, which has just moved its store onto its own sim.

As for me? Well, I’m showing what it can look like without the coat. Again, you have attachments for the upper and lower arms to fill out the shirt and give it a bit of drape at the elbow, and in the mix are shoulder prims to give the vest its points. The vest prims are, again, just perfect; in fact, I would certainly purchase just the vest alone if it were available in other colors, because I’m sure I could combine it with other period coats and shirts I have for a more authentic look to 17th-18th century fashions. Of course, no captain would be without his hat, and this is a less-ostentatious option for headgear than Morrigan’s Worthy Pearl hat. Naturally, I’ve combined this with Siyu Suen’s terrific and versatile pirate boots (with the flared tops, in this case, one of several options).

Beautiful work from Morrigan Denimore, as always, and with a dizzying array of additions and options for wearing it; I didn’t even deal with the different collars, so that you could wear the shirt without the vest. By all means, run down and get this one: at a mere L$400, it’s a steal.
