Lagging in Style

Hair Fair 2009 is an addiction, and I’m pretty sure we’re all masochists for braving the lag and buying the hair and bandannas for a good cause. SL’s had its up and downs yesterday, making it all more frustrating, but remember—it’s a two week-long affair! If you just have to get there NOW, however—and I know I did—there’s a few tips for getting around in fashion while doing your part to make the experience as quick and easy for everyone. The faster people are able to get around to buy, the more money that will be raised, so really being low-lag is a charitable act. Sasy Scarborough, one of the organizers, has a few great tips. Two that I’ll emphasize, though: as few prims as possible, and no scripts whatsoever! “But how can I look good without my resizable hair and shoes?!”, you ask. Well, it’s not impossible.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skin: Tyberius t4 Beard by Adam n Eve
Eyes: Abyss Red Sea by MADesigns
Shirt: Isis White by Zaara
Shorts: Tartan Shorts Ivory by Whippet & Buck

Hair Fair 2009 is full of beautiful people, but it’s hard to see them when their prim-heavy hair and shoes, and the scripts in their AOs, contribute to the slow drowning of the server under the load of hair-mad fashionistas. You can help make sure everyone sees how hot you are, however, by dressing down and going for the casual (and primless) look. Yesterday, I was spotted in the ensemble above, without a single attachment to my name—and I looked good, or so I was told. Pretty easy to spot a guy in flashy white, riding around on his Beamer (aka red plywood box), I guess.

There’s some great skins out there with hair bases, both for men (as with this skin, one of many new male skins from Adam n Eve) and for women (like Adam n Eve’s newer skins, or check out Blowpop—last day for their sale and the retirement of the Infinity line of skins which come with hairbases!), that’ll keep you from going the Sinead O’Connor route. A beautifully textured shirt from Zaara and the terrific dress shorts from Whippet & Buck complete the ensemble. Shoes? We don’t need shoes when we’re making our way to Candy Mountain, Chaaaaaaaaarlie!

If you absolutely have to have some sort of hair and shoes, at the very least make sure the resize script is gone—each prim has to have a copy of the script, you see, and they can add significantly to server-side lag which makes it look like you’re moving through jello. To remove resize scripts, make a copy of the hair/shoes, wear those, and then activate the touch menu most of them have. In the “All Prims” options, you’ll see that you have the option of deleting the scripts.

In the end, what matters is that you’ve had a good experience buying the hair you want, and that your fellow residents have been able to do the same. Be charitable to one another!
