Shapes, photography and fashion reviews by Ran Garrigus and Freyja Nemeth. This blog has been replaced by the Otherworldly blog.
LivejournalToday’s been a busy day, running off to show our boxer at a dog show and then coming back to work, amazing stuff to review, and then a passle of new skins from Adam n Eve. Two of the following were shown in passing during my recent underwear review, but the options they gave to the melatonin-challenged male avatars out there seemed all the more revelant in relation to one of the latest releases from Adam n Eve, so I thought I’d give them a proper review.
Skins: Justin t1 Freckles and t3, Dominic t3 Goatee and t4 and Tyberius t4 Goatee 1 and t1 by Adam n Eve
Underwear: Rantastic by Adam n Eve
Poses: Reel Expression and LAP
Let it never be said that men can’t find a diversity of skins in SL, not least when sachi Vixen has gotten loose on the problem. From left to right we’re seeing the redhaired Justin, the blonde Dominic, and the black Tyberius. As you can see with the first two, they use the same basic body type, although their skin tones are unique and there are some subtle tweaks that make each body different from the next. The biggest change lies in the face, with Justin being well-suited to a more youthful appearance (which I took advantage of with this shape) and Dominic striking me as a little more adult.
The biggest change in body is with Tyberius, which is now the third body template that Adam n Eve has made use of in sachi’s madcap release of skins over this past couple of weeks. The abs are amazing, if I may say so, and the pectorals and collarbone are well-handled. As always, Adam n Eve skins are as seamless as it’s humanly possible to make them in Second Life.
A closer look at Justin in all four skin tones (going from the lightest t1 to the darkest t4) shows one of the great features: the hair base. A true ginger, Justin’s hair is particularly nicely shaded. The facial options here are not quite the usual assortment of clean shave and three facial hairs. Instead, there’s a freckled option to match the clean shave option, and then a full beard and a goatee. The shading of Justin’s mouth strikes me as particularly good, with a great lip cleft and a nice sense of definition. As is proper for a redhead, Justin pretty much has the palest skintone of all the skins released by Adam n Eve so far.
Dominic features blonde brows and hair base, for those who want a fairer complexion. His skin tones run a little darker than Justin, with tone 4 striking me as a great pick for the blonde beach gods out there. The eyes are particularly distinctive on this shape, which can be used to great effect in various ways; sticking with the idea of being on the beach, I used them to suggest a little bit of a squint against the summer sun. If sachi ever makes a fifth tone, a more bronzed look might be a nice one to put into the mix I think.
As far as facial hairs go, these are pretty straightforward in terms of offering beard and goatee options, as well as a soul patch that’s rather discreet. The facial hair, much like the hair base, is quite well-textured.
Adam n Eve has made a bit of a splash with Tyberius, the first black skin in the Evolution line of photoreal male skins; hopefully there’ll be more to come. From lighter to a gorgeous deep black, there’s really a great deal of choice here. Besides the clean shave shown in t4, there’s a beard depicted on t1, and goatee 1 and goatee 2 respectively. I find the facial hairs suit this skin particularly well, and I’m rather fond of the goatee options. Though possibly because goatee 1 reminds me a bit of Avery Brooks circa Deep Space 9... The lips are particularly realistic, as you can see by closer examination.
The constant experimentation, the tweaks and adjustments, and especially the constant attention paid to offering men as much choice as possible when it comes to appearing how they want to appear has led to this explosion of brand new skins from Adam n Eve. And suffice it to say, sachi’s not quite done with the men’s skins department. There’s already one new skin I’ve just given a glimpse at (Mohan, seen briefly in the Silhouette Warfare armor review) which I’ll cover in more detail later, and at least one more skin waiting in the wings. And for the ladies out there who aren’t just satisfied having their men in these gorgeous skins, sachi tells me she’ll be laying the male skins aside for awhile to turn her focus to female skins.
