Shapes, photography and fashion reviews by Ran Garrigus and Freyja Nemeth. This blog has been replaced by the Otherworldly blog.
LivejournalI had really planned to take the day off from blogging today ... but first Dream Resistance of Fantasia dropped me a copy of a new release, and then Siyu Suen of Illusions released a new item that just happened to be in a similar vein. So, out of the window went those plans, and on went some fabulous pieces of costuming.

Hair: Basha Light Red by Dark Mouse
Clothes: Priceless Teal by Fantasia

Priceless, seen here in Teal, is made as a set of Robes of Concealment for a Gorean Freewoman. Dream Resistance notes that she tried to pattern it as closely as possible on the descriptions provided in the Gor books, though since I have not read these myself I will have to take her word for that.
However, regardless of whether or not you do Gorean roleplay on SL, this is a really nifty outfit which I think could work equally well for any Middle Eastern-inspired roleplay setting. As shown in the image, it can be worn without any of the headcovering, and since that part is actually three separate prims (hood, veil and scarf), it is also possible to wear selected pieces for more or less coverage. The sculpting of the pieces is quite nicely done, and the patterned texture on the dress has a distinctly eastern feel.
Since the dress is empire waisted, it does not play nice with poses with too much hip movement, but there is a script inside the dress which helps keep the waist straight for some poses. If you prefer not to have the script, or if you want to do any other tweaking to make the outfit fit better, the good news is that Fantasia clothing is now mod/copy instead of mod/transfer. This made it easy for me to resize the pieces that I needed to adjust, though overall the fit was good out of the box.
The hair, btw, is a freebie from Dark Mouse, an example of her new line of hairs. I think it is quite excellent.

If veiling your face is your thing, but you’re not looking to buy a whole outfit, then this next item is for you. The Khimar from Illusions is a fabulous piece of sculpting and texturing, available in both a male and a female fit. It consists of four separate pieces—agal, cowl, hood and mask—and each piece is colour-changeable (the agal in two sections). This makes it wonderfully versatile in how it can be worn and how it can be coloured up.
It does end up taking up a few attachment points on or around the head, but if you get the copy version you should be able to make copies to link together to use just a single attachment point instead. I didn’t do that for this review, though I did end up reattaching the mask to an ear instead of the nose to be able to keep my lashes on. Just make sure to always make a copy before trying something like that.
Both Ran and I are wearing outfits from Silver Rose Design, from her line of Middle Eastern-inspired clothing.
My skin in both these pictures is the lovely Saba from Skin Within, and Ran is wearing one of the brand new male skins from Adam n Eve, Dylan. If you like the look of him, stay tuned for some looks at two more new skins from sachi Vixen later today: blond Dominic and redheaded Justin.
