Avatars of Ice and Fire

A blogger challenge that caught my eye this week finally got me to start on a project I’ve had in mind for ages, namely to (just as the challenge instructed) create avatars based on various book characters.

Ran and I are huge fantasy fans. We read tons of it, we play fantasy-based MUSHes (in fact, we even run one) and we run a big fansite and forum dedicated to George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. So, of course my first two entries in what may end up being a little series of character portraits will have to be from those books. They were a lot of fun to do, so I won’t be surprised if I do quite a few more Ice & Fire characters (there’s a lot to choose from, that’s for sure), though I don’t know if I dare branch out further because there are so many characters I would love to do from so many books.

I should note that unlike my review photos, where I don’t edit anything beyond removing the background, these photos have been edited.

First up we have Daenerys Stormborn, daughter of the last Targaryen king, living in exile from Westeros. The way she is shown here is inspired by how she looks like at the beginning of the first book, though she should probably look a little younger. Daenerys is of Valyrian blood, with pale silver-gold hair and purple eyes, and like most of them she is very beautiful. I imagine them as rather delicate-featured; not quite elfin, but in that direction.

To achieve her look, I used the palest tone of Blowpop’s Mellie3 skin, in the natural version. I did have to edit the brows, to get a pale look that suited the hair (which is the Magdalena hair in platinum from MMS). The jewellery is the Sinqui set from Tekeli-li, chosen since Dany is said to be wearing a headpiece when she is dressed up to meet her future husband, and I picked the Twilight dress from Icing since she is supposed to be wearing a light, silky dress in a plum colour. The style is probably not quite fantastical enough, however.

I would have loved to do Dany as she appears in one of the later books, where she wears a gown that leaves one breast bare, but I guess I will have to wait until someone starts doing Ice & Fire inspired clothing in SL. ;)

Next to her, golden and beautiful, is Cersei Lannister, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms by her marriage to Robert Baratheon, who took the crown from the Targaryens. She’s said to be tall and beautiful, with golden hair, green eyes and a very fine pair of breasts. She and her twin, Ser Jaime, are said to be like mirror images of each other, so I have always imagined her as a classical beauty that borders on handsome.

Her skin is Meredith from Tuli, which I think gives her the right air of regal arrogance. The golden hair is Calico’s Emily, and the gown (appropriately crimson for a Lannister) is the Bess gown from Adam n Eve, worn without the jacket and the ruff as Cersei is not a very demure lady. She is also wearing the Medallion necklace from Miriel, which is perfect for a medieval look.

So, there you have it, Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister. I am hoping that Ran will be next with a couple of male Ice & Fire characters, and then I will start considering what girls to tackle next. I’ll definitely need to stock up on some more dresses that would fit into the setting, though.
