LivejournalWhen I saw the Lord Edward suit at the Fleur-Nicky Ree Spring Ball, being worn by a model, I just had to get it. It’s perhaps the most gorgeous piece of 18th century-inspired clothing I’ve seen in SL. The brocaded waistcoat, the big buttons against the green stripes, the aged lace, the knee-high stockings—just utter perfection, precisely the thing to suit this particular avatar (based on a roleplaying character I’ve always supposed existed in a sort of broadly 17th-18th century sort of setting). Alas, Nicky hadn’t gotten it into her store then, so it was an anxious few days until I could finally get my hands of it.

The first tough choice then was that there’s a number of excellent colors to choose from, including Aqua, Berry, and Indigo. But the green just matches this red-headed fellow quite well, and the waistcoat was particularly strong on this one and Aqua because of the golden colors. It’s just a very dashing looking. Besides the terrific texturing, the sleeves are a great touch, and the aged lace is just right. The prim skirt has a terrific shape and movement to it, and the lining has a delectable pattern that’s absolutely true-to-form for that sort of clothing. Do I even need to mention that the matching Lady Edwina gown looks very handsome next to this?
The skin is one that I fiddled with for a long while, and will keep working on until it’s just right for this particular character. It just captures the intended look very well. I know some players have remarked that the Eloh male skin mods are a touch on the feminine side, but ... well, that’s exactly where this particular avatar is supposed to be going, so I’m just fine with it! Topping it off is the Julep hair from Bryce Designs, a great pony tail that I’ve recolored to suit me but Bryce has some very nice textures. And, you know, actually having a mod hair is such a great thing these days, when it seems to be becoming rarer and rarer. Some of us really do just want to be able to make sure our hairs match in color.
These wonderful sculpty shoes came out relatively recently, when Jackal Ennui was able to tear herself away from WoW long enough to shower us with some of her products. Inspired by shoes of the Baroque era, these were absolute must-haves for someone like me, who prefers to dress up in period clothing. The texturing of the leather is just terrific, and the buckles are a great addition giving it a bit of flair. I only wish my ankles didn’t insist on poking through the uppers a bit, but you can’t have everything.
The shoes are sold in three colors, with each package containing two sizes plus versions with gold and silver buckles.
I’m really pleased with the look of this outfit, so don’t be surprised if you see me wearing it most of the time for the next week or two. Nicky Ree’s outdone herself.
