Furniture, Prefabs & Props

Vintage Naughtiness

What does a new skin from Nomine, some vintage stockings from League and some cool toys from chanimatios equal? Some naughty fun, of course.

A Creature of Legends

When it comes to what is fun to photo I find that right now I have grown a little tired of “just” posing, even in pretty locations. Instead, I find myself looking for interesting props and poses that interact with them, from houses and furniture to the more unusual. Faery Sola’s latest prop definitely fits into the latter category: a unicorn.

1001 Nights

One of my favorite sims in SL, while it existed, was Cicada, which the brilliant designers at NotSoBad built for a client. When the sim disappeared, well, I was quite heartbroken as the build was so beautiful. But then ... they released their first Arabic/North African-themed builds at their store, and made me happy again. Oh, the price tag at the time was out of my reach, but I knew I’d buy one eventually. And then, as it happened, Freyja and I were finally persuaded to buy one because of the 20% off sale going on right now ... and then we up and bought another one thanks to the encouragement of a friend. And we’re glad we did, because these homes are gorgeous.

A Bittersweet Bath

Alchemy Cyannis stormed into Second Life with her partner in Alchemy Immortalis, but she’s diversified into quirky, interesting household furnishings and decor via Alchemy’s Attic. The store location introduces the particular aesthetics, with a cozy cottage feel. Inside, there’s quite an array of items to be purchased, all presented elegantly and effectively. Among them is the Bittersweet Creek Double Slipper Clawtooth Bathtub (quite a mouthful!), which is a perfect example of what Alchemy’s Attic can bring to any home.

Making Beautiful Music

Alchemy Immortalis has made some of the most beautiful jewelery I’ve seen in Second Life, and they’ve created one of the more atmospheric and beautiful sims I’ve seen in my time in SL. Alchemy and Immortalis Cyannis are even more talented than that, however, as my next pair of reviews are going to show.

Framed!

The first ever Pose Fair has begun in Second Life, and it really makes one realize just how many amazing pose designers and prop makers there are out there. Fantastic! Blogger packs have been flying, the blogger preview has led to yet more lindens out of my virtual wallet and into someone else’s pocket, but that’s fine. It’s nice to not just be a static figure with a newbie stand, twisting his head one way or another. And it gives me something to write about. In this case, aDORKable’s cool photo frame props for men.

Begone!

The second Sourceress set coming from chanimations at the Pose Fair (starting April 2nd) is the “Exorcism” set. With this one, you can get together a bunch of friends for a fun evening of exorcism—it seats 10 followers, one circle leader and one victim! But you can also use it with just two people, if you don’t have enough minions.

Its a Kind of Magic

Time for the first real tease from the Pose Fair that is starting April 2nd. Chanimations is releasing two new props in their Sourceress series, and this is one of them, the Source of Life set.

But before that, a brief note about where you can find the list of items worn in our posts: if you click through to view the whole posts, you’ll notice a link beneath each image saying “Style Notes & Slurls”. Just mouse over that link to see the list.

Come to the Cabaret

Pose Fair is coming, so to warm up for some reviews focusing on poses and pose props, I thought I’d share a recent prop acquisition. It isn’t a new release from chanimations, but I will have a couple of those for you in the coming days. For now, though, lets have a look at the CabaretBeauty prop from the Fetish Cabaret series.

Beautiful Requiem

We’ve not featured furnishings at all in general, with two exceptions to date . . . but all good things come in threes. The first release from Alchemy’s Attic, the sister-store to the amazing Alchemy Immortalis store, is to die-for, and even though Freyja and I don’t actually use skyboxes or prefabs (we’re happy in our little platform 600 meters up) we just had to get it as a prop for photography. It’s fully worth the price, as you’ll shortly see.

Tropical Relaxation

One of the on-going benefits of the recent efforts to promote contacts between fashion bloggers and content creators has been the opportunity for bloggers and creators to chat, share knowledge and information, and more easily find outlets for getting the word out about some of the excellent creations currently being produced in SL. Thanks to a note in the SL Bloggers Network founded by Voshie Paine, I contacted Rogan Diesel of the hot new pose and animation store, Diesel Works, to inquire about his products. He kindly dropped his latest creation, the Diesel Works Hammock, for me to check out. The images that follow will be a first for Oldfashioned, taken on location rather than at our studio so as to better show how well-suited it is to tropical locations; be sure to click through the images to see them in full size.

Fit for a King (or a Queen)

This is a first for me, namely furniture. Not exactly something I review every day, which may have something to do with me and Ran not exactly having a home setup on our little piece of land, just a photo platform to hang out on. ;) Still, we have eyed nice furniture for use in photos before, and when the notecard arrived announcing that Tekeli-li had put out a few pieces of furniture, of course I had to check them out. I knew it wouldn’t be your regular old couch, for sure.
