My Little Animesh Pony

Animesh has been on the grid for some months now, though only more widely adopted since it was added to the Firestorm Viewer more recently. A search through the Marketplace shows a growing selection of animesh objects. But the one I had been waiting for only came out yesterday, namely the first two horse breeds from the new Teeglepet range from Teegle. You may recall that I reviewed the Teegle Bento Horse Avatar when it came out over two years ago. I love the way it moves and the modelling of the different horse breeds, so I was very eager to try out the Teeglepet. As soon it was out on Friday, I hurried off to buy Maestro the Hanoverian and Sugar Cookie the American Paint Horse. To learn more, watch the video! If you’d also like to have a horse in Second Life, should you go for the bento avatar or the animesh pet? Ultimately, it depends on how you want to use it. Some basic points to consider are noted below.

The bento avatar is modifiable via the shape slider, which means that you can customise it to some degree and make different horse breeds out of it. There are also additional bodies you can buy which provide more distinctly different looks, in the same way that two mesh heads with different base shapes will respond to the face sliders in different ways.

However, if you want to go riding in SL, you would need for the avatar to be owned by an alt account. Same if you want to take photos together with your horse.

The animesh horse is not modifiable, instead it will come in a variety of breeds but you have to purchase each one separately. You can of course use different textures on it, just like on the bento avatar. The coat textures available for the bento avatar work on the animesh horse, but the animesh horse textures have not been tested on the bento avatar.

The animesh horse can either be rezzed out and ridden where you have permissions to rez objects or you can attach it from your inventory and ride it like that if you are on a sim that doesn’t allowing rezzing. It can also be left out on your land and set to wander around. There will be more complex behaviour added as the horse is developed further.

Right now, there are a lot more accessories for the bento avatar than the animesh horse, but I imagine that will change. I am not quite sure how poses and animations will work for the animesh horse—for the bento avatar you can buy a lot of different poses and animations that make photography and riding more fun.

In terms of price, the bento avatar costs L$5000 and the animesh horse can be bought in a no copy version for L$1500 per breed or in a copy version for L$6000 per breed.
