Stormy Curls

I may have mentioned my passion for curly hairs in SL once or twice before. Its a somewhat dangerous addiction, leading me to making purchases that I’d normally shy away from. But there’s just something about a really well-done curly (and flexi, this is of key importance) hair, like this one from Detour, that makes me go ‘ah, what the heck, I’ll get it anyway’. More about this and the new Elymode release behind the cut.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skin: Amanda Tone 4 Berry by Adam n Eve
Hair: Storm B Black by Detour
Clothes: Bodysuit and Angle-Waist Skirt Wine by Elymode
Accessories: Flat Ankle Boots Black by Coco

The hair is Storm B from Detour, here seen in black. There’s also a Storm A and a Storm C using similar curl textures but in different lengths and shapes. I almost picked up Storm A a few weeks ago, but I am glad I waited since the longer version is more me.

For this hair, Keri Clip of Detour has created fine, slightly frizzy curls that float around your face in a light, teasing way. I think it is really flattering to the face—or at least the sort of faces I tend to make—and very well executed in terms of shape and curl texture. However, I do think the black isn’t quite as good as the burgundy colour which was the colour of the demo. The highlights come out a little bit greyish. Fortunately, it tints really well. Use a pale blue tint for more glossy highlights or a pale red to give an overall appearance of a deep, dark red.

Still, for complex textures like these, I really wish the demos showed all colours, because it really can vary quite a bit how good the hair looks from colour to colour. And while I am wishing for things, I do think that at 350 L$ it would be more reasonable to include a few colours or colour variations, as is done by other stores offering similar styles of hair. It is a very well-done hair, no doubt about it, but I would definitely be shopping at Detour more often if the hair packs included several colours. I switch between black, shades of red and white with some regularity, and I do prefer to pick hairstyles where I can get all those colours without breaking the bank.

The pretty, wine-coloured outfit which goes so well with the Berry makeup for Adam n Eve’s Amanda skin is from Elymode, and consists of a bodysuit and an angle-waist skirt. Each piece can, of course, be worn on their own as well, and combined with other pieces. I continue to be very impressed by the skirt shapes that Elysium creates, as well as by the fabric textures. She really knows how to texture in such a way that it flatters how the prims move. And the neckline, of course, is excellent for showing off the push-up option for the Amanda skin. The boots, finally, are a group gift from Coco. Boots without a heel make me a very, very happy girl. There are far too few of those in SL, and sometimes I just have to have them. They are also very nicely sculpted and textured.
