Yesterday, the Skin Fair finally opened, and within seconds of public access being enabled the sim was full of skin-hungry ladies. And a few gentlemen, too, though sadly there isn’t that much on offer for the guys. Ran will no doubt lament this when he gets around to his post.
For us ladies, there’s a range of choices, with new releases both from larger and smaller brands. The first skin I will cover is not a new skin, though it does have a selection of new makeups that were launched just for the fair. It is also a skin I really ought to have covered sooner, namely Launa Fauna’s Chai Nova line.

I quite liked several aspects (especially the makeups; Launa Fauna excells at those) of the previous Chai line, called Double Shot, but when I first tried Chai Nova it didn’t quite seem to go well with any of my shapes. However, I received a sample for the Skin Fair and gave it another try on a couple of different shapes. I was very pleasantly surprised.
The shading on the cheeks and the nose does mean it will not fit every shape (then again, which skin would?), but on the right type of shape it is a very lovely face.The body, too, is both well-made and pretty. I am particularly fond of the very natural breast shading, which I would love to see more of in SL, and also the bottom. Overall, it is a nicely soft and feminine body.
There are some small issues, such as the belly button being a touch too dark and a small seam on the left leg, but nothing major. The skin grain is very much improved from the previous Chai line; my main issue with that one was the very heavy grain. Here, its just enough, though I did see that on the darker tones some areas seem a bit too detailed compared to others, such as the bottom in comparison with the back.
The makeup shown is from the new “Chairis” range, which consists of 5 makeups created in collaboration between Iris Ophelia and Launa Fauna. Chai Nova is available in six skin tones (with a darker sister skin, Chai Sable, available in three tones). Each skin comes with a regular and a freckled version, and with push-up cleavage on an undershirt layer. Both eyebrows and lips are tintable, adding to the skins versatility.
The hair is a new acquisition, though not a new release, from Calico Creations. I love her hairs together with skins with a more hand-drawn look.
