Triumphant Fanfare

For me, one of the things SL has given me is the opportunity to experience and virtually try out fashions that I would never have considered in my First Life. A whole series of Japanese fashions would have passed me by, and while I’m not sure I’d ever actually try them in First Life even now, I certainly gain a great deal of aesthetic pleasure in being able to put my avatar in them.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skin: Androgyne Man Cappuccino B-00 by eXceSs
Hair: Robin Evening Sun by Uncle Web
Outfit: Fanfare by The Black Canary
Shoes: Cavalier Boots by Illusions

For example, Morrigan Denimore of The Black Canary is—in my book—one of the most unique and interesting designers who’s inspired by Japanese fashion sub-cultures such as Elegant Gothic Aristocrat. There’s quite a lot of this sort of thing in SL, true enough; but he’s the first to really grab me by the throat, so to speak, with such an uncompromisingly pure vision. I’ve lauded his use of monochromatic palletes before, and I’ll just have to do it again with his latest unisex release, Fanfare.

Morrigan’s clothing tends to the androgynous, and Fanfare suits men and women just fine. The sleek fit is lovely to look at, and the white embroidery on white of the coat gives such a lovely appearance. With sculpted attachments at each arm and for the sash, it also pushes things a little further to give a pleasing silhouette and sense of texture. The sash is a little bit odd in that it doesn’t go all the way around at the back, but I think this works as a better solution—trying to do it properly would, it seem to me, likely cause a lot of breakage. The tail is also an attachment, this time a prim with an alpha texture and then the rather large sculpted bow. I admit, when I first saw Fanfare advertised, the tail gave me pause ... but now that I’ve been running around in it, it seem the most natural thing in the world.

Androgyne garments demand androgyne avatars, and this particular shape in eXceSs’s Androgyne Man skin works quite well I think. The choice of hair took some time, but in the end I opted for a newer hair that I picked up awhile ago but haven’t had time to review, Uncle Web’s Robin. As with all their hair, you get two slight variations. This one is part of a series with new and different hair textures, so Evening Sun isn’t to be found in the broader line. Uncle Web’s one of the premiere Japanese hair stores in SL, so it very much suited the occasion. And the boots… well, what more can I say about them that I haven’t already said before? Well, I love Siyu Suen for making them; how about that?

1. When this post first came…

When this post first came over the feed, I was confused.  Is this a man or woman?  Then I realized it was Ran as I’d never seen him before and looking quite dashing! The skin and hair suit the outfit well.  I love it!
