Pretty, Pretty PXLs

I know, I know. Its another skin review and more naked pixels. But, really, these naked pixels need to be seen. They belong to PXL’s latest skin, Kim, and ever since I saw Grazia’s first previews of the skin on Plurk I have been feeling as if it might be one for me. I was right. Its my first PXL skin, and its been a very pleasant new acquaintance to make.

With the skin I am showing another favourite from Adam n Eve’s new hair collection, the lovely Contessa updo, as well as a stunning necklace from Alchemy Immortalis. Depending on whether you take a bit of SL drama with your breakfast or not, you may have heard some whining related to this brand recently. For my own part, I think the complaints are laughable. What does it matter if someone leaves and returns as another avatar, as long as there’s no shady business going on? And there isn’t. Its just gorgeous, shiny pixels that turn me into a veritable dragon, lusting for new pieces for her hoard.

Oh, and as for the little troll that tried to comment on Ran’s post about Alchemy Immortalis...tough luck, but that one went into the dustbin.

Skins: Kim Natural, Sunkissed, Light Tan and Tan by PXL
Hair: Contessa Black by Adam n Eve
Accessories: Ami Amet Deli Pencet French Brooch Necklace & Vine Earrings by Alchemy Immortalis

Now, back to the business of oogling Kim. She comes in four tones, none of which is particularly pale, but that is fine by me because I think she really looks her most stunning in the darker tones. There’s definitely something exotic about Kim, which you really can play up with the shape if that is a look that you like.

Kim’s body is very well executed, with breast shading that works well for a natural look, a nice curve to her bottom and soft, feminine shading all over. I have been interested in a couple of the previous PXL skins, such as Grace, but I’ve felt that the bodies haven’t had quite enough contrast. I do have some favourite skins that are fairly low contrast, because I really like a a wide variety of skins and skin styles, but generally I pick those up in very pale, almost gothic tones. I find that the mid-range in particular needs a little extra contrast to be interesting to the eye.

In Kim, there is definiely that bit of extra contrast. It is perhaps still a little softer than my preference, but its marginal and it just a preference. Its definitely a body I would be happy to show off in very little ... such as just a bit of jewellery. If you are interested in reading more about just what went into developing Kim, and to see some comparisons with earlier PXL skins, I really suggest checking out Grazia’s very in-depth review.

Style Notes & Slurls

Skins: Kim Light Tan CE Red, DE Pale, SE Nude and SE Siena by PXL
Hair: Contessa Black by Adam n Eve
Accessories: Ami Amet Deli Pencet French Brooch Necklace & Vine Earrings by Alchemy Immortalis

Since the Light Tan tone is my favourite, I’ve chosen it to show off four of the makeups from the range. But before I get into the makeups, let me just take a moment to gush about those cheekbones, because those are what made me say “WANT IT”. They are, as far as I am concerned, absolutely perfect for this particular shape. I am also very happy with the lips and with the fact that the nose shading handles the very bold nose on this shape so well.

Kim is offered with 4 different eyemakeups and 8 different lipcolours. You can buy either a single skin (L$ 1000) or sets of all eyemakeups with a certain lip (L$ 3000) or all lipcolours with a certain eye (L$ 5000). Of course, a single skin actually means 6 or 8 skins, because you get 3 or 4 different eyebrow options, each with either a bald head or a painted-on hairbase. For the hairbase, you also get a hair attachment included.

The makeups are all quite classic, nothing very wild or out there, but that suits me very well. The lip colours are very rich and lovely, I think.

When I spoke to Hart Larsson about the skin, after he was kind enough to drop a review pack on me, he noted that there are some big changes coming to the PXL store. He hopes to soon introduce a system where you can mix together your own fatpacks with a kind of shopping cart system, and I believe the system will also include some kind of bonus for customers. These sort of innovations to how we shop in SL as well as rewards for loyal customers really sound like great developments for me. Anything that makes people more likely to buy things is the right way to go.
