The Whisperings of Tiny Birds

Hair Fair’s been extended a couple more days, and no surprise. The sims are almost constantly at capacity right now, so hopefully a whole lot of money is being raised for Locks for Love and a lot of excellent new hairs are being bought. Today I’m going to focus on just one of the hairs I’ve picked up, from Tiny Bird which is run by one of the organizers of Hair Fair 2009, Autumn Hykova.

Pants: Lewis Jeans by INDI Designs
Shoes: Sneakers Camo by NYC

The Bereznyak hair for men from Tiny Bird caught my eye when I was making my way through the various sims. I don’t wear a lot of “modern” hairstyles for men, generally speaking, so when I buy one, it’s generally because it catches my fancy somehow. In this case, the two things that attracted it to me were the sense of texture and structure to the hair, and the excellent packs. The Kota pack, as shown in the three hairs here, covers three distinct hair colors: the very pale Buttermilk, the light brown Chestnut, and the very nice deep red of the Cinnamon textures. There’s several other mixed packs like this, name—if I’m not mistaken—after residents of Autumn Hykova’s acquaintance. There’s also the more traditional packs of closely related colors, and I have to say the textures are quite nice. At only L$175 a pack, it’s quite the deal. It’s presently only available at Hair Fair.

I’ve paired this up with my latest skin purchase, the Steve Law skin from the Abyss in its lightest tone. I’ve heard some say that the darker Abyss tones strike them as a little “orange”—I disagree—but the light tones of this skin and the Dave Gear skin certainly can’t draw that complaint. I pretty much never wear ripped jeans, but I thought this pair from INDI Designs suited my newest pair of shoes (thanks to the always-stylish Irregular Guy fashion blog), the sculpted sneakers from NYC,. While the pack of five sneakers with two solid colors and three patterns (Camo, Tartan, and Ska) are usually L$250, at present they can be found on Xstreet for only L$50 which is quite the deal. My only complaint with them is that plain size 0 feet on a male AV did not agree very well even after I used the resize script to increase it to a degree I found excessive. I had to put on a pair of foot shapers from another pair of shoes I had, and that sorted out the problem nicely.

And to top it off, the military refuge jacket from Armidi. I’ve owned this for ages, but I notice now I’ve never given it a proper review. I bought at a time when I was very much the penny-pincher, so I think that’s a testament to how appealing I found it when I was cruising the Armidi store for only the third or fourth time. It’s not quite the only item I own from there, but it’s nearly so; the quality is very high, certainly, but most of it just doesn’t quite push my buttons. Except the Gisaci suits for men, which I will eventually muster the L$ to buy.

This really is a great time to be a guy in SL. There’s hairstyles to suit all tastes, from punk to fantasy, from hip to modern to be found at the Hair Fair.
