Dark Goddess

I have never dressed up for Halloween in RL. Its not really that big in Sweden, the attempt by shops to import it as another consumer-oriented holiday didn’t really work out. It was popular for some years, but now the only reminder is annoying kids showing up to trick or treat. ;P We already do something similar during Easter, so that’s plenty as far as I am concerned.

In SL, however, I have to admit that Halloween is a pretty fun season. Not that one cannot dress up every day in SL, but its always nice to have an added incentive. This year, Ran and I decided to attend the Goblin Masque held by Siyu Suen of Illusions, and of course we had to put together some fabulous costumes. He was rather quick to decide on what he wanted to do, but I found it harder. In the end, it was a releases from Adam n Eve that saved me, as well as a currently unreleased skin that sachi made for herself for her own party last week and then allowed me to have as well. With those bits in places, I was able to find the missing pieces.

Style Notes

Skin: Persephone Unseelie T1 Forest by Adam n Eve
Hair: Emily Midnight by Calico Creations
Eyes: Utter Black by Miriel
Outfit: Sorceress Black by Adam n Eve
Horns: Herne by Illusions
Mask: Obscurita Femmina Black by Illusions

Here’s the whole look, which I like think of as a dark goddess of the woods. The outfit is the Sorceress in Black from Adam n Eve, with mystical runes covering the fabric. There’s a very nice sculpty collar, sculpted pieces for the hands a well as a skirt that combines a kind of jagged sculpty overskirt with a regular prim skirt. You get the option of wearing both as one piece or having the two pieces as separate attachments.

The hair, of course, is my beloved Emily from Calico, here in Midnight. Its beautiful and fantastical, and easily my favourite hair in SL. It also provides the perfect “base” for the icing on this dark and delicious cake, the stunning Herne horns that are part of Illusion’s latest release, a massive collection of horns. It contains everything from a variety of little demon horns to gigantic moose antlers.

The mask worn in the picture on the left (and in the full-length picture) is the Obscurita in Black, a freebie from Illusions. The jagged edges of the mask complimented the neckline of the dress rather well, I thought. I did have to pull down my nose for this one, but its worth it.

In the right picture, I took off the mask (and forgot to bump up my nose, so its a bit too small) and switched out the hair in order to be able to show off the gorgeous Unseelie skin, here seen in the Forest makeup. I really like the skin tone, it looks like it belongs to a creature of the woods without being unrealistically green. Sachi has not released these yet (I believe there’s a total of four makeups for this particular fantasy skin), but I am really hoping she will be able to fit more fantasy skins into her very packed work schedule so that she feels she has enough for a release. The quality of this skin is every bit as high as that of her regular Adam n Eve skins.

Oh, and no, there’s nothing wrong with my eyes. I am wearing a group gift from Miriel, the Utter Black eyes. I don’t believe these are available in her store, but she does have a very nice selection of eyes in both standard and realistic sizes. I know a lot of people who swear by them as the best eyes available.

If you don’t have your own Halloween costume worked out (or if you need another one), I would definitely suggest checking out Illusions for masks and other necessary accessories (like horns; who doesn’t like to get a bit horny? ;P) and Adam n Eve for costumes.
