Demo This, Demo That

Inspired by this thread on SLU.

We definitely expect demos for skins and hair, and many creators of prim-based accessories such as shoes and jewellery have also started offering them for their products. It does add extra work, and extra upload costs, but there are many things I would not ever consider buying without first trying on a demo and there are many things I have ended up buying because I could try on a demo. However, when it comes to clothing, the option to try on a demo is very rarely offered. This may be more or less fine in the case of lower-cost items and items without any prim parts, but what about expensive items, which often have prim parts? Why do we have to buy these unseen?

I only know of one place for certain that have demos for very item of clothing that they have available, and that’s Adam n Eve. The demos are a big reason for why my first big clothing purchase as a new player ended up being at Adam n Eve, and why I ended up working for sachi and Damen. Bare Rose also offers the occasional demo, for very prim heavy outfits. Considering that their items are no copy, I wish they’d do it for everything. However, with their very low prices (and very high output volume), I understand why it would be difficult to do. Ran also mentioned that he thinks Blaze does them, at least for some things, but I have not confirmed this.

To sum up, I really wish that more creators, whether their items are copy/mod or trans/mod, would consider doing demos. To me, it shows that a creator has real faith in their products. If a few start doing it, one can always hope it might establish itself as the thing to do. So far, though, it doesn’t seem to have taken off, but if anyone knows of more places that do clothing demos, I’d love to hear about them.

1. Just wanted to add that…

Just wanted to add that I totally agree.  Nothing worse than spending a lot on an outfit and finding it fits horribly.  Here are a couple other places that offer demos.

2. Just want to add that at…

Just want to add that at Hexed we offer demos of most of our clothing (the older stuff sometimes doesn’t have a demo, but all of the newer stuff has demos, plus you can choose your permissions, mod/copy or mod/trans.

3. I would LOVE to see more…

I would LOVE to see more demo clothing around. I started thinking about this a couple days ago.. I was trying to figure out the reason why very few clothing designers don’t offer demos. It wouldn’t really differ much from skin demos (trying on textures for free) or shoe demos (trying on prims for free). I’ve had a few horrid purchases where the front & back of shirts look amazing, but the seams - oh my. (and I’m very very very picky about seams lol) I guess no-demo clothing has been the standard for so long that designers just kinda go with the flow of what’s the ‘norm’.. plus there’s always newer designers who probably learn how to start up their business by looking at established stores, which may be those that don’t have demos.

Hexed offers clothing demos.. not sure if it’s for all clothing, but I did spot a few there. At the main Tricolore location, Kazu Pinklady’s clothing has demos available. And I’m going to make demo clothing available soon.. hopefully by the end of next week, or early september at the latest :) Maybe someday demos for clothes will finally be the standard?

4. My Bridal store has always…

My Bridal store has always offered demos of my bridal gowns….. i think at the moment there is only one that does not currently have a demo (laziness on my part)..... and I agree… with higher priced items such as these ($L500 to $L2200), and such an important event I think it is necessary.  Just check my profile for the bridal store landmark.

5. Thanks for the feedback…

Thanks for the feedback so far, everyone. :)

Very happy to see that there are at least some more stores that offer demos, perhaps there’s a chance that this might take off after all.
