I have had my eye on Naergilien Wunderlich’s store for a while now. She is an RL costume designer who is reproducing many of her own designs for Second Life. Her store includes a lot of Victorian clothing, some Elizabethan outfits, and some outfits inspired by various period or fantasy movies. In addition to this, she has a separate store for modern clothing and she has also made a few photorealistic skins as well. Most recently she has added her first batch of period.appropriate hairs. It was this latest addition that prompted me to finally pick up a few things.

The gown I decided to pick up is the Ophelia gown, which is Naergilien’s Elizabethan take on a gown from a pre-raphaelite painting. As with all of her period clothing, she has strived to make it as historically accurate as possible, and she notes in the notecard accompanying the gown that it is accurate for a period around 1575 to 1580. All of her clothing is also towards the photorealistic end of things (if I understand it correctly, she photosources her own garments or at least actual fabrics), and lately that seems to be seen in an unfavourable light by a lot of people. Personally, I don’t have an issue with it as long as the end result is satisfactory.
The dress is here shown with the puffed and slashed sleeves (which I am really liking), but it also has an option for long hanging sleeves. The skirt is a combination of a prim skirt and a system skirt, and this did pose a bit of a problem for me. As my avatar is rather short by SL standards, I had to adjust the prim skirt to make sure the hemline lined up with that of the system skirt. Fortunately, the prim skirt is quite neatly put together and adjusting it was not too difficult. Still, I must admit that I am not a fan of system skirts, at least not for longer skirts and for patterned skirts. They distort the patterns pretty quickly, limiting what sort of poses can be used. Considering how well done the prim skirt was, I would have preferred to have the option to just wear a prim skirt.
The hair that I picked out from Naergilien’s first four releases was the Simple Braided Hair. She noted that this style is suitable for many time periods, from Medieval to Victorian, but that it is a casual style that might not precisely be suitable for a noble at a ball. It was, however, just what I needed for those of my avatars that represent characters from mine and Ran’s A Song of Ice and Fire MUSH.
The hair is very neatly put together, much like the prims in the gown, and I just love the fact that it has no bangs. So few styles without bangs can be found in SL, likely because of how hard it is to produce a very neat, reasonable realistic-looking hairline. Like this one, which proves that it can be done. The textures also look quite good to me, and I am definitely hoping to see more hairs in Wunderlich’s. Not the least some male period hairs, because that is almost impossible to find.
Overall, I am quite pleased with my two selections from Wunderlich’s, and I think the store is a definite must to visit for anyone who is interested in accurate period clothing. When the creator can tell you more or less exactly which year a dress fits into, you know that she knows what she’s doing, and it is just very cool to have garments produced with such accuracy in mind.
Not only are her clothes beautiful and great quality, she is an awsome person. So glad to finally see her name in Fashion world of SL
