When I saw this blog post from a shop I’d never heard of, Zaara Indian Couture, I immediately teleported over to Zaara Kohime’s booth because the depicted clothes was just that eye-catching. I was even more floored, and Freyja with me, when we saw her gorgeous, affordable Indian fashions for women that filled the booth. I zipped off a notecard asking her about one detail at her booth: the fact that she offered a recoloring service for just L$30 (this goes even for some of her deliciously-intricate pieces). She had me hook, line, and sinker, and when she promptly got back to me and discussed how it worked, I soon settled on the fact that I just needed her Jodhpuri outfit in black with silver threadwork ("zari", as she’s noted it’s called in India).

Product Details

Skin: Scorpio Ra [3B] by the Abyss
Hair: Brian Midnight by Calico
Outfit: Jodhpuri by Zaara Indian Couture
Shoes: Estampie Dark VelvetLassitude and Ennui

Here’s the outfit in all its gorgeous detail. Absolutely perfect. Zaara went the extra mile after seeing that I have a rather small, slender AV, and included a small skirt shape which ended up needing only minimal adjustment. The packaged Jodhpuri comes only with a system jacket that combines the brocaded jacket with the shirt, but when I asked her about this, she said it was to simplify things and she’d be only too happy to provide that jacket and the shirt and jacket separately. It’s just perfect.

Another look at the Jodhpuri outfit. I really am just floored by it. It’s dreadfully handsome, and now I’m tempted to get it in a couple other colors. A couple of other notes I should make include the fact that the pants also come in a boot-fit tights version, and that the the turban to suit the costume is also sold separately in two, patterned textures which are also quite appealing. Do note, however, that the turban is not mod, unlike just about everything else she packs into the deal. No big deal, as it’s voluminous enough to suit just about any male AV, whether a 6’0” slim guy like mine or a 7’ beefcake.

The results were simply amazing, as the photos show. And it’s not just the craftsmanship that’s amazing—so’s the service! After I spotted a small texture issue (probably a problem introduced in the upload and server-side compression) in the combined jacket-and-shirt, and noticed that the silver trim on the sculptie sleeves seemed to be a bit on the blue side, Zaara quickly responded and got me new, perfect versions within hours.  It’s presently one of my favorite pieces of clothing, and I’m finding it hard taking it off my avatar.

Zaara’s definitely an up-and-coming designer, with obvious heapings of talent and a terrific, customer-oriented approach to business. Though the Jodhpuri and associated turbans are currently her only offering for men, she’s planning to eventually add more menswear, and I suspect by the time they come out I’ll have to wait in line.
