Eastern Attractions, Part 2

Now the other side of the harem, the gentlemen who want to get into it. Adam n Eve has turned out a pair of beautiful, Middle East-inspired outfits for men. Wearing them gives an exotic, mysterious cast to any male avatar, and I’ve had enough compliments in them to know that they’re certainly eyecatching. If you want to feel like Aladdin on his carpet or the legendary sultan Haroun al-Rashid, take a look at these.

Skin: Scorpio Osiris by the Abyss
Hair: Snow Leopard (retextured) by Calla
Outfit: Crush Red by Adam n Eve
Shoes: Estampie Wine Red by Lassitude & Ennui
Accessories: Dragon’s Tear Gold & Ruby Adam n Eve

The Crush outfit makes me feel like I’m ready to go adventuring with Sinbad. Available in six colors, each set comes with three sets of pants with matching sashes (the one shown is in the sand color; white and black are also included). The gold braid along the hem feels perfect, and the velvet texture is lush without looking so dense as to smother you under the hot desert sun. If you ever visit the 1001 Nights sim on Purgatorio, this is an outfit you should consider. Now to find a nice scimitar…

Of particular note as well are the shoes, the Estampie medieval-inspired shoes from Lassitude and Ennui. I think a set of these is an absolute must for anyone interested in medieval or fantasy clothes. They’re a beautiful example of sculpted prim work (in fact, the main part of the shoe is a single prim; the laces add on another twelve I believe) and texture baking.

As a special treat, here’s a look at Damen Gorilla’s gorgeous necklace for men, the Dragon’s Tear. It is, as far as I know, one of the first pieces of jewelry to incorporate sculpties throughout. See those links? Each one is a sculpty. In fact, I think the only piece that isn’t a sculpty is the ruby in the middle, and that’s a nicely tortured prim. Adam n Eve eschews bling scripts, but this ruby definitely sparkles with an animated texture that lets it wink and gleam in the light.

For the most part, I wear very little jewelry in SL, much as in RL ... but if I had a necklace as nice as the Dragon’s Tear, I’m pretty sure I’d be wearing it all the time.

(And ladies, yes, there’s a version for women.)

Skin: Jared t4 by Adam n Eve
Outfit: Sultan Black by Adam n Eve

To wrap things up with a bang, here’s the Sultan in full kit, including the fun turban. This is one of the most impressive embroidered outfits I’ve yet to see in SL, and you can’t see the half of it from this photo. On the chest, the darker band is flanked by a more subtle play of shades of grey in intricate Middle Eastern patterns. The flexi portion attaches at the chest, and flows incredibly well as the designer, sachi vixen, has a definite knack with getting flexies moving well. The female version of this, the Sultana, has similarly-intricate embroidery, but mixes in some other colors to get a strikingly feminine effect.

The Sultan is available in six colors.

There’s a great deal of potential in beautiful, Arab-themed garments like these I think. The richness of Persian embroidery, of Ibero-Moorish geometric tiles, and more could really go a long way as you can see in these costumes from Adam n Eve. Sachi Vixen has said she’s felt the urge to do more costumes in this vein, and I hope she does. I’d also like to suggest to any creators out there that trying to modernize these kinds of outfits—the dashing corsair look, the regal sultan, and so on—might be a very interesting turn. I’d certainly be keen to buy a three piece suit with a subtle geometric embroidery pattern on the jacket and vest.
